Youth Ambassadors Program To Host Second Annual Food Justice Summit

Men and Women United for Youth and Families, CDC (MWUYF) is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Delco, NC that serves underprivileged and at-risk youth in Lower Bladen, Northwestern Brunswick, and Columbus Counties.

We have an outstanding Youth Ambassadors Program which aims to instill leadership, entrepreneurship, and social skills in youth through agriculture and civic engagement. On May 24-26th, our Youth Ambassadors will be hosting their Second Annual Food Justice Summit at Rockfish Camp and Retreat Center. But we need your support to make this thing happen!

Last year’s summit was an incredible achievement! We had over 60 youth from throughout rural Eastern NC in attendance, nearly 100% of whom were youth of color. The goals of this year’s Summit are the same as last year’s: to build awareness around food systems issues, develop skills for advocacy, and empower youth to be change-makers in their communities.

In light of Hurricane Florence, the theme we will focus on this time around is Climate and Food Systems Resiliency– developing a network of youth in rural NC that build power FROM THE GROUND UP to fight climate change and build a more inclusive food system.

To keep the Summit accessible to all, we need to raise a lot of money. And while our accommodations are quite rustic (think cabins in the woods, fire pits, and forest trails…) we still need to fundraise for those accommodations, plus meals and transportation for 80 youth throughout NC. Will you help us? Yes? Awesome! We are so grateful for your generosity!  Every little bit helps!

Here’s how far your $$ will go:
$30 pays for meals for 1 youth participants for the entire event
$35 pays housing for 1 youth participant for 1 night
$100 covers the cost of one meeting space for the weekend (of which we need 3)
$150 pays for transportation stipends for one youth group to travel to the retreat center
