Rooted in Community Summit 2017

On Wednesday, July 19, the five Youth Ambassadors, including Alyssa Delts- Robinson, Jordan McKoy, Ethan Gotay, Harold Boyd lll, and Dontrell Stevenson; along with adult allies Randolph Keaton and Diamond McKoy to the Rooted in Community (RIC) Summit in Greensboro, NC. The group returned Sunday, July 23, with a host of good stories to tell to the other youth. 

The Youth Ambassadors had the opportunity to attend workshops on 

• Equity in Environmental Justice
• 7 Principles of Cooperatives
• Food and Culture: Refugee Struggles
• Food and Culture: Celebrating Food
• Community Food Security/ Sustainable Food Systems
• Alternative Forms of Wealth
• Food Politics/ Industrialization
• Creative Workshops

The Youth also participated in the Day of Action event in downtown Greensboro that included painting murals, giant hand puppet show, and a march for Food Justice.

During the summit the youth were equipped with skills, and resources that will allow them to better implement and execute their vision with their Youth Food Policy Council.
